Frequently asked questions.

At SoCo Bronze, we want your spray tanning experience to feel effortless, relaxing, and empowering. Below you’ll find answers to common questions about mobile spray tanning, how to prep and care for your skin, and details about the products and ingredients we use.

What is a mobile spray tan?

A mobile spray tan means I bring the glow to you! I provide a full professional setup, including a pop-up tent and spray system so you can tan in the comfort and privacy of your home. It’s perfect for busy schedules, events, or simply treating yourself.

How should I prepare for my spray tan?

Good prep = a better, longer-lasting tan!
24 hours before your session: Exfoliate using a gentle scrub or exfoliating mitt.
12–24 hours before: Shave or wax to allow your pores to close.
Day of your tan: Avoid lotions, oils, deodorant, perfume, and makeup.
After your tan: Wear dark, loose-fitting clothing to prevent rubbing or streaks.

What should I expect during my appointment?

Your appointment takes about 30–40 minutes, including setup and drying time. I’ll set up a private tanning tent to protect your space and provide complete privacy. Each tan is customized for your skin tone and preferred level of color, leaving you with a natural, sun-kissed glow.

What should I wear during the spray tan?

Whatever makes you comfortable! You can wear a swimsuit, disposable undergarments that I always offer, or go topless/nude for minimal tan lines. I maintain a professional and comfortable environment at all times. Men are always required to wear shorts/boxers/undergarment. Any clients under 18 are required to wear top & bottom undergarments.

What makes my skin tan?

The active ingredient in most solutions is DHA (Dihydroxyacetone). DHA is a colorless, plant-based sugar that reacts with the amino acids in your skin to create a natural bronze tone. It’s non-toxic, FDA-approved for external use, and safe for all skin types. But always be sure that you don’t have a known allergy to DHA.

What ingredients are in your spray tan solutions?

I exclusively use Sjolie Spray Tan products, known for their:

  • Naturally derived, vegan, and cruelty-free ingredients

  • Paraben-free, gluten-free and fragrance-free formulas

  • Safe and gentle performance on all skin types

You can view the full ingredient list for each product I use here.

How long should I wait before my first rinse?

  • Classic Solution: Wait 8–12 hours before rinsing.

  • Rapid Tan: Rinse in 2–5 hours, depending on your desired depth of color.

  • Your first rinse should always be lukewarm water only, no soap, body wash or shampoo/conditioner. Gently pat dry afterward.

How long will my tan last?

With good prep and care, your tan should last 7–10 days. Keep it glowing longer by:

  • Moisturizing daily with an oil-free lotion.

  • Staying hydrated! Well-moisturized skin starts on the inside.

  • Avoiding soaps containing sulfates, exfoliating properties, artificial scents. We don’t do Dove products with spray tans!

  • Avoiding hot tubs/saunas, excessively hot showers and exfoliating scrubs.

  • Patting dry instead of rubbing after bathing.

How should I care for my skin after my spray tan?

  • Avoid water, sweating, or swimming for at least 8 hours after your session.

  • Skip soap & hair washing on your first rinse.

  • Wait to apply deodorant, perfume, or makeup until after your first rinse.

  • Moisturize daily and stay well-hydrated to extend your glow.

Will my spray tan stain my clothes or sheets?

The cosmetic bronzer may transfer slightly before your first rinse, but it typically washes out easily. Wearing dark, loose-fitting clothing helps prevent noticeable transfer. The cosmetic bronzer provides an instant, temporary glow so you can see your tan immediately while the long-lasting color develops underneath. It also provides a guide for your spray tan artist.

Can I get a spray tan if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

Yes! Spray tanning is generally considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding. I always recommend consulting your doctor first. For your comfort and safety, I offer nose filters, disposable garments, and proper ventilation during every session.

Can I get a spray tan if I have a sunburn?

I do not spray tan any clients with a sunburn. A spray tan should never be applied to sunburned or peeling skin. Sunburned skin is already damaged and sensitive, and applying solution can cause uneven color, irritation, patchiness, and faster fading as the skin heals and peels. For the best and safest results, it’s important to wait until the sunburn has fully healed and all peeling has stopped before getting sprayed.

How often can I get a spray tan?

You can safely spray tan every 7–10 days. It’s best to let your previous tan fade completely before scheduling your next one to keep your results smooth and even.

Can I wear makeup or deodorant after my spray tan?

Wait until after your first rinse before applying makeup, deodorant, or perfume. Applying them too soon can interfere with the tanning process or cause uneven spots.

Does a spray tan protect me from the sun?

No, spray tans do not contain SPF. Always wear sunscreen when spending time outdoors to protect your skin from UV rays.

Do you offer group tans or tanning parties?

Yes! I love bringing the glow to groups. I offer mobile tanning parties for bridal groups, girls’ nights, birthdays, and special events. Group discounts are available for four or more tans. Book a Spray Tan Party found under Our Services and make it a “glow night in” to remember!
